Could ordinary batteries replace AGM batteries?

1. The original car is with an AGM battery, but it does not have a start-stop system. Can it be replaced with an ordinary battery?

1. Because AGM batteries are suitable for vehicles with start-stop system, it does not mean that AGM batteries are not used without start-stop. For example, the original Mercedes-Benz battery that everyone comes into contact with most often is installed in the rear trunk for 7-8 years. Why? Because it uses VRLA battery, which is the predecessor of AGM battery. Its design life can reach 15 years. In addition, most of today's luxury cars are equipped with various electronic systems, therefore, there are often multiple electronic versions of models. If you change back to normal batteries, these functions will be greatly reduced or even turned off.

2. Both AGM batteries and VRLA batteries are fully sealed batteries, and there is no gas emission during use. If it is replaced with an ordinary battery, it will produce gas that is harmful to the human body during operation. What’s more terrible is that the battery emits hydrogen and oxygen during use. When the concentration in the car reaches 4%, there is a danger of explosion.

3. Because the sensor and electronic control system which monitors the battery status are adjusted according to the technical parameters of the original battery. The cost of a start-stop battery is more than twice that of an ordinary battery. If ordinary batteries can be used, I don't think any manufacturer would be so stupid.

2. Can the AGM battery of a vehicle with a start-stop system be replaced with an ordinary battery?

It must be the reason, and everyone may know it! Here, I will talk about three points:

（1）Frequent high-current startup of the start-stop system, dozens or hundreds of high-current discharges a day, can ordinary battery packs work? Too low battery capacity will drag down the start-stop system.

（2）The start-stop system has a generator management system. If the computer detects that the battery is sufficient during the driving process, it will turn off the generator and not generate electricity. At this time, the entire electronic system of the vehicle is powered by the battery. Can ordinary battery do it?

（3）The start-stop system has a braking power recovery system, and the high-current charging at this time is beyond the reach of ordinary batteries.

So don't watch someone else replace a normal battery and think they're fine! Suffice it to say, time will tell. Just to apply an advertising slogan: not all batteries are called AGM batteries.

3. What is the service life of AGM battery?

This battery has a lifespan of about 4 to 6 years. This kind of battery has better performance and longer service life. The battery is a very important part of the car.
